1035 Militaria: a British Officer's 1827 pattern private-purchase dress sword and scabbard by Pearce & Sons, Clifford St, Bond St, London W.
The hilt of ornate gilt cast brass construction, in the contemporaneous naval style with solid guard bearing military insignia, the folding inner guard with lock pin and blue & gold knot. The pipeback handle with wire-wrapped shagreen grip terminating in a lion's head pommel. 31" steel blade with single fuller, decorated with eastern-inspired etched floral motifs, the flat bearing the maker's name and inset proof escutcheon. The scabbard of brass and leather construction, decorated with engraved floral sections.

30 1/2" steel triform blade in the French style, each side decorated with etched acanthus scrollwork, the flat bearing the maker's name. The hilt of ornate gilt cast brass with island cross-guard bearing military insignia, the grip formed from six sections of mother of pearl. 36 1/2" overall

The plain sectional hand guard of steel construction, stamped 'RF' (Republique Francaise) and serial number '355'. Pipeback handle with wire-wrapped leather grip and stepped pommel. 34 3/4" steel blade with single fuller, the flat correspondingly stamped 'RF.' The steel scabbard with single loop. 43" overall

This regiment is now serving in the Soudan for the first time as the 21st Lancers.' Aperture 11 1/4" x 15"
