Details of Lot 305
Rare large WWI Personal Photograph Album : Lieutenant Bernard Thomas Williams of the 49 th Machine Gun Corps , awarded the Military Cross on the 29 th November 1918 whilst serving with the 52nd Machine Gun Corps at Mons.
Pictures include Somerset Light Infantry ( officers in training ) where Williams came from , photographs from Loos and the Somme ( these are very rare as soldiers were not permitted to take photographs at this period ) Williams was wounded at the Somme push on the 7 th September 1916 ( photographs of him and others ) and next we see him recovering at the Military Hospital at Sommerville College , Oxford University . Williams , when recovered in late 1917, continues with the Machine Gun Corps in Syria, Iran and Palestine fighting against the Turks . He then moves to the Western Front in 1918 , this is where he gained his Military Cross. The last photographs circa 1920, show him posted to the Far East.
Many personal photographs all annotated and titled, including pictures from biplanes , make up the complete picture of a remarkable man.
