The Reitlinger Collection was items previously held by the Henry Reitlinger Trust, which operated the Reitlinger Bequest Museum in Maidenhead between 1951 and 1987. In 1991 items were transferred to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.
Henry Scipio Reitlinger,M.A., died in 1950, started life as a mining engineer but travelled widely. He amassed a large collection or ceramics, prints, drawings and other works of art, together with an endowment for the benefit of the collection. The Fitzwilliam Museum does not include any items from the Reitlinger personal collections which were auctioned at Sotheby's after his death.
Also a brief biography of John Hoppner is ascribed verso to one, where it states that Hoppner was the appointed portrait painter to The Prince of Wales and shows the influence of Sir Joshua Reynolds
