1st French Empire :an ornate gilt bronze ' Thomire a Paris ' cased clock ( Timepiece ) with convex enamel dial and convex glass before ( having a change of movement to an integral wind movement , the whole 17 1/8" high x 9 1/4" wide. The case with image of Eurpa and the bull to centre flanked by Shinx with ornate masks to sides , an eagle cradles the 5" dialled clock on its back between outstrectched wings, surmounted by a winged flaming torch, the whole on a base decorated with Anthemion
Pierre-Philppe Thomire (1751-1843) a French sculptor, was the most prominent bronzier, or producer of ornamental patinated and gilt-bronze objects and furniture mounts of the First French Empire. His fashionable Neoclassical and Empire Style furnishing bronzes (bronzes d'ameublement) established the highest standard in refined finish in the craft that the French called that of the fondeur-ciseleur, "founder-finisher". He also made a clock case for Napolean's wedding .
