Local interest: A record of sporting festivities undertaken at Calvert, Buckinghamshire and the surrounding area for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, 1897.

"A holiday was arrange for June 21st 1897 (and) in this, the workers of the new Great Central Railway were determined to join in"

The album containing fourteen period monochrome photographs of the day, portraying the GCR engine 'Corea', the jubilee committee, Great Pond Farmhouse (Calvert), the 'triumphal arch', 'money-takers', the Waddesdon Temperance Dance Band, pupils of Calvert Navvy Mission Sunday School marching with their banner, Mr. Overman of Evenley with bicycle, revelers taking tea under a barn, Mrs. Burbury of Great Pond Farm feeding her Aylesbury Ducks, the 'Busy Tea Servers', the sports competition prizes and Sir Edmund Verney who distributed them.

"The principle races were 120 yards flat race, 100 yards boys under 16, Obstacle Race (very interesting), 3 legged race, 100 yards for men over 60, The High Jumps, Potatoe (sic) race, Sack race and 1/4 mile flat race"
